New Creation: Mercy Triumphs over Judgment

Scripture Reading: James 2:11-13

We often think of judgement as the hammer going down on us. “Mercy triumphs over judgement” (James 2:13) makes no sense in our world where we are constantly evaluating and measuring up and criticizing and condemning! However, in the eyes of God, His judgement is perfect and right, but lead with MERCY.

Justice to the Lord is Jesus – the man that denied Himself and paid for us on the cross. He was the image of mercy and selflessness to us. He is the ultimate example of God’s justice.

This is why God calls us to practice mercy and compassion among people. To not judge others in the way we think. To give up our selfishness that often condemns us. This is why the law has so much freedom. It exposes our selfishness and our dirt so the redeemer can take it away. Then when it’s gone we can fully give people mercy and compassion rather than condemnation. We receive mercy to freely give and extend mercy to others.

As we enter into the new year, how can we receive the justice of God in our own hearts? Where are we hiding our dirt? Take a moment today sisters, to ask the Lord where the Lord wants to reveal something you’ve been hiding or ignoring. He wants to take it away, get rid of it on the cross and replace it with his mercy. Give up that dirt today sisters, invite him in, even if it may hurt at first. In the end there is only freedom that can extend mercy towards others.
